May and too cold!

It's very cold at night at the moment and there was a frost on Monday and a more severe one forecast tonight.
I have resisted planting most stuff so far but I've got plants in pots everywhere in the greenhouse and in the conservatory! Some neighbouring allotmenteers put their beans out on Sunday but I didn't risk it. I have loads of plants needing pricking out but not enough rooom. My earliest potatoes under the glass on a raised bed are doing really well and the rest of the 100 I have planted were earthed up at the weekend. I will be going up tonight to do some more earthing up.
The onions and broad beans are looking fine and I have nearly dug all the second half. I keep doing a bit and planting as I go, the latest addition was some beetroot.
Can't wait to put the tomatoes and aubergines out at home and get the peppers, courgettes, butternut squash, pumpkins, sweetcorn, beans, etc. out at the allotment.

April 2010

On old allotment, I now have 1 bed of Broad Beans, 1 of onions, 2 x potatoes (early and second early) and all raised beds now prepared.
On new allotment, I have started digging from back again and have done just over 1/2.
Got some more potatoes in - main crop (making 100), still 14 more to put in (somewhere!).
More onion sets are in plus some early carrots.
Loads of stuff at home, peas, mange tout, tomatoes, cabbage, brussels, aubergine, courgettes, peppers, etc.

2010

Another decade and the plot is still covered in snow. Managed to get some leeks last Saturday in between snow showers.
These pictures were taken on 3rd Jan before the 9 inches we got last week!

June 2009

I had a good week on the allotment when I got back off holiday on 30th May and have got my original 1/2 in good shape. The new 1/2 I have now dug and cultivated 10m deep from the back out of a total 17m so getting there. I have put some carrots, pak choi and beetroot in to join the potatoes, beans and sweet peas already there. I will keep digging a few more rows at a time and put crops in as I go. On Sunday morning, I hoed everywhere on new 1/2 and dug up a few early potatoes for lunch, a good crop and decent sized pots.

May 2009

As I write it is May Day and it's chucking it down. Went up to the plot last night and everything is looking great, the leeks are starting to get a bit bigger, the carrots are showing, the peas and mangetout are pea sticked, the potatoes are going well, loads of flowers on the strawberries and I am ready to put some cauliflower in.

On the other 1/2 allotment, I am slowly working my way back down the plot, I have 27 potatoes in, 100 red onion sets, bean sticks in ready for planting and I have moved/cleared the raspberries to the back and right hand side.

8 March 2009

I put some early carrots in last weekend and finished the last raised bed. Yesterday my youngest daughter helped me plant the first 18 early potatoes (Rocket) under glass. This worked really successfully last year so I am going for twice as many this year.
I have cleared quite a few areas ready for planting and the conservatory at home is filling up with seedlings - 3 varieties of tomato, sweet peppers, cayenne peppers, asters, basil, parsley etc. My new (second hand!) greenhouse at home is also filling up, I have one side of the path full of Little Gem Lettuce and my staging has some peas and some sweet peas. Roll on warmer weather though.

Feb 2009 - Half Term

I have almost finished constructing the last of the 2 remaining raised beds that I ran out of time doing last year. That will make 10 in total. I have some onion sets in (weeded them on Saturday when I went up for an hour). I am still picking Rocket and lettuce for salad in my sandwiches. I have some glass over one of the new raised beds warming up the soil ready for my early potatoes to go in, probably next weekend. I also have some garlic, broad beans, purple sprouting broccoli, Brussels sprouts and some spring cabbage. I will be sowing some early carrots soon.
